Our vision is of a world in which older people are valued for their contribution
Help the Aged is working hard for a world in which older people are valued for their contribution to society, involved in their local communities and fulfilled in their needs, hopes and aspirations.
Our vision and objectives
Working together with older people, Help the Aged campaigns, researches and develops practical solutions, to ensure that older people:
- have enough money to live on, not just survive;
- feel more involved and less isolated or alone;
- get equality and rights in all areas of their lives; and
- receive high-quality care, when and where they need it.
Working to ensure that older people have enough money to live on, not just survive
Have you ever had to choose between heating your home or eating a basic meal? Help the Aged believes older people have a right to a decent income – enough for adequate heating, a healthy diet and a few enjoyable extras.
Working to ensure that older people feel more involved and less isolated or alone
One million older people say they feel trapped in their own homes. Help the Aged believes that older people have a right to dignity, respect and independence, and to lead full and active lives.
Working to ensure that older people get equality and rights in all areas of their lives
Every day older people are discriminated against on the grounds of age and are effectively thrown on society’s scrap heap. Treating older people as second-class citizens is degrading. It deprives us all of the skill, talent and contribution of a major and growing section of the population.
Working to ensure that older people receive high-quality care, when and where they need it
Can you imagine how it feels to be forced out of your home because there’s no one to help you wash and dress each morning? Help the Aged believes that older people have a right to expect both quality and equality in care.
Our international work
Help the Aged does a lot of work to help older people around the world, as well as in the UK. We work in partnership with HelpAge International to achieve a lasting improvement to the lives of disadvantaged older people worldwide
